Located in the lower part of Main Street, in the middle city, the Hotel-restaurant "Au Boeuf Noir" (The Black Ox)
is surely one of the eldest hotels of Saverne. The house was built in 1662, by Johann Jacob Weber, and then transformed
in an Hostelry in 1669, which was called "L'Aigle Noir" (The Black Eagle). At this time, the building
had the aspect that he still had at the beginning of the 20th century (hereunder).
It was renamed "Au Boeuf Noir" at the end of the 19th century, One of its innkeepers, Emile Schaeffner, transformed it by adding one level, as it appears on the next card. It's the aspect that it still has today, but the hotel and restaurant are now closed. In the building, there is now a pizzeria.
