Hotel-Restaurant de la Gare

Located next to the railway station, at the beginning of the Railway Station Street, it seems that the hotel exists since the middle of the 19th century. It was probably built at the same time or just after the construction of the Paris-Strasbourg railway and the opening of the Railway Station Street in Saverne.

At the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century, the hotel was called "Zum Münchener Kind'l" (The little child of Munich), which was the name of a brewery in Munich. The hotel was bound to this brewery by a beer contract. On this card it is presented before the extensions were added to it.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a double extension was added to the initial building. It has then 7 windows on the façade (instead of 5) and 4 windows on Station's Place (instead of 3). This was probably done by E.Zimmermann, who was the innkeeper at that time.

My great-grand-father, Charles Fischer, bought the hotel in the year 1913. He renamed it Hotel-restaurant de la Gare (Railway Station Hotel), and after that Hotel-restaurant Fischer.

The hotel closed its doors on the 30th of September 1998. The last inkeeper was my uncle, Charles Fischer's grand-son, who took early retirement.
