Let's go back now to Main Street, through Church Street. In this street you can
admire this splendid octagonal oriel, at the entrance of Father's Street. The house, number 6
in Churches Street, has been built in the 16th century. The lintel of the door (not visible on the postcard),
is dated 1564 and has a welcome inscription in german: "In Gottes Namen geh herein der wil
mein gutter Gonner sein" ("Enter in God's name the one who bring me His protection").
The two upper floors and the angle oriel on a sandstone stack have been built in the 18th century.
In front of us, there stands the catholic church dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin.
It's the main church of the catholic parish of Saverne. We arrive in front of its splendid bell tower porch, which was built
in the 12th century. We will enter in the church later.
We arrive in the middle of Main Street, on Church's Place. The beautiful house of which we can see the stairs leading to the entrance on the right, was destroyed in 1972. Another "modern" building was built in its place.
